Swimming at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate

Swimming lessons begin in Chapter House and continue through school, allowing you to be involved in swimming at both lunchtime and after-school activities.

The activity programme for swimming is separated into two categories: swimming development and squad training.

Facilities

Queen Ethelburga’s boasts impressive swimming facilities within the Genesis Aquatic Centre, including a four-lane 25-metre training pool, which supports a full Colorado competition-timing system with touch pads and a fixed screen.

Ice baths are also used as part of the rehabilitation programme for students competing nationally.

Join the Training Programme That’s Right For You

Queen Ethelburga’s has two training programmes for lovers of swimming. Swimming development is for students who enjoy swimming and want to improve the foundations of swimming skills and techniques. Whereas squad training is by invitation only and is for students who want to compete at the highest possible level.

Meet Amaja, One of Our Star Swimmers

Amaja is currently a King’s Magna student who also swims for Great Britain in Biathle (swimming and running) competitions outside of school. Within school, our coaching staff heavily support Amaja with her training through early morning and evening swim training with access to the physiotherapy facilities and the fully equipped gym used by other professional sport teams.

Queen Ethelburga’s has helped me with both my academic education and with my competitive swim training and competitions. I’m so grateful for the school allowing me time off to compete in county and regional competitions as well as the world championships for Great Britain in Bali.

The school’s swimming coach initially encouraged me to take swimming further and they invited me to the Swimming Squad sessions. I began training in the early hours of the morning and staying later after school to attend the evening swim training sessions. The work I put in, and the excellent coaching I received, helped me be selected for the Swim England Talent Pathway.

If it wasn’t for QE, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to work with one of the highest qualified swim coaches in Britain, within amazing purpose-built facilities for swimming and land training.

Queen Ethelburga’s has provided me the best support in my academic studies and sports training and have inspired me to dream big. After leaving QE, I hope to study Robotics Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and compete in the American Collegiate Swimming Championships.
