Topic – Humanities, Science and Art
Children in Years 1 to 5 discover the world they live in through exciting topic work that teaches History, Geography, Science and Creative Arts.
Each Year Group learns three topics that are brought to life through amazing trips, engaging workshops and lessons inside and outside of the classroom.
Take a look at the fifteen fascinating topics available at Chapter House:
- Home and Away – Learning about themselves and their local environment, while contrasting this with Africa, including its animals, art, and geography.
- Forest and Fairies – Learning about plants, designing and making a moving picture for a traditional tale, and creating artwork in the style of Monet.
- Sun, Sea, and Sand – Exploring the history of holidays and lifeboats, while using science to investigate floating, sinking, and waterproof materials.
- Castles – Studying castles, weapons, and the Battle of Hastings.
- Polar Regions – Learning about the geography and animals of Antarctica and famous expeditions.
- Scientists at Work – Studying Charles Darwin, and the geography and science of the Galapagos Islands.
- Rockstars – Learning about the characteristics and formation of different rocks, and the lives of those living in the Stone Age.
- Bronze Age to the Iron Age – Exploring how lives changed and developed, including Stonehenge, art, settlements, rocks, and soils.
- Beyond Face Value – A study of the portraits of British monarchs and the symbolism within them.
- Our Changing World – Learning about the continents of the world, the Amazon Rainforest, and Ancient Egypt.
- Romans and Italy – Exploring the Roman successes and their impact on Britain, along with the geography of modern Italy.
- History of Chocolate – Studying Aztec and Mayan cultures, their impact on the cocoa trade, and designing and marketing your own chocolate bar.
- Inventors – Learning about the weather, terrain, and life in Ancient Greece, the expansion by Alexander the Great, and notable inventions throughout history.
- Vikings – Exploring the journeys and cultures of Vikings and Saxons, and the effects of their settlements in new countries.
- Parks and Explorations – Delving into the history of space exploration, the solar system, sun, and moon, along with an in-depth study of Australia.

Discover Creative ArtsFollowing our achievement of the prestigious Gold Artsmark Award, we are thrilled to announce that children in Years 2 and 3 will embark on an inspiring new curriculum aligned with the Arts Award programme. This initiative is designed to nurture and enhance children's creativity, communication skills, and confidence. Pupils will follow the Discover Pathway, an engaging artistic journey where they will explore a wide range of art forms, discover influential artists, and share their learning experiences along the way.

Build Skills In Topic Through Enrichment Activities
Outside of lessons, pupils can continue their love for art, science, humanities, and technology by participating in enrichment activities, such as art, origami or photography club.
Fantastic Facilities
Chapter House hosts an art studio, IT suites, science laboratories and a DT workshop for children to delve into topic work. Lessons are practical and teachers encourage students to use tools and appliances independently. Often teachers link with other departments like Catering and Creative Arts to make full use of the facilities available.
