At Queen Ethelburga’s, education is designed to build lifelong learning skills and ensure success.

Our forward-thinking approach to integrating new technologies into the classroom has even earned us recognition in Forbes for our proactive use of AI.

We are committed to continuous improvement. Each year, our staff conducts thorough reviews of the curriculum, considering school data, societal trends, and student interests. This ensures that our GCSE, BTEC, and A Level offerings are aligned with the evolving job market. Recent additions to our curriculum, such as Esports, Marketing, Creative Media, Global Perspectives, and Graphic Communication, reflect the careers our students are likely to pursue in the future.

Beyond the Classroom

Lifelong learning extends beyond the academic timetable. Our enrichment programs, super-curricular activities, and the QE Study Toolkit provide students with opportunities to explore new skills, hobbies, and passions that could lead to future careers. For students in Years 6 to 9, enrichment activities are integrated into the school day, encouraging them to discover and develop interests that inspire lifelong learning.

QE Futures and Beyond

To further prepare our students for life beyond school, we’ve introduced QE Futures, a comprehensive careers program that supports students from Year 5 through Year 13. Our Careers Department provides personalised guidance on subject choices, enrichment activities, and career paths tailored to each student's strengths and aspirations. From subject selection and university applications to interviews, work experience, entrance exams, and auditions, QE Futures equips students with the tools they need for success.

The QE Study Toolkit

In addition to QE Futures, we’ve launched the QE Study Toolkit, a whole-school initiative aimed at transforming how students approach revision. Introduced in Year 6, the Study Toolkit encourages students to make revision a regular habit, rather than an overwhelming task. For our boarding students, a dedicated “Power Hour” is scheduled every evening to reinforce effective study habits.

Super-Curricular Activities

Starting in Year 10, our students have access to Super-Curricular activities designed to deepen their subject knowledge and skills. These activities, led by both teachers and students, span diverse fields such as art, mathematics, engineering, medicine, and veterinary science. Our provision also includes guest speaker sessions and workshops, featuring Old Ethelburgians who share their expertise on topics like networking, playing professional sports, and excelling at Oxbridge.
