This week, Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate welcomed Professor (Dr.) Dane Vishnubala, a leading expert in medicine, delivered an inspiring talk about his diverse career and shared valuable advice for students aspiring to enter the medical field.
A Distinguished Medical Career
Dr. Vishnubala captivated students with the story of his journey in medicine, beginning with his dual training as a GP and a specialist in Sport and Exercise Medicine in Yorkshire. He shared his extensive qualifications, including two MScs in Sport and Exercise Medicine and Medical Education, as well as a PhD in Medical Sciences.
His roles are as diverse as they are impressive, including:
- Consultant Physician in Sport and Exercise Medicine for the Ministry of Defence in Catterick.
- Chief Medical Officer for Basketball England/GB Basketball, Volleyball England, and the Rugby Football League.
- Founder of the Yorkshire Sports Medicine Clinic in York.
- Lead Doctor for the Sport England-funded National Physical Activity Health Care Professionals Education programme.
Dane also highlighted his academic contributions, including his role as Chair of Education at the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine, Clinical Lead of the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Leeds, and research in SEM medical education and concussion. Additionally, he serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and a Visiting Professor at the University of Derby.
